I am honored to award a posthumous diploma to Walter Elfering. WWII broke out & his 3 older brothers joined the Army. Since he was the next oldest & had two younger siblings he was held back from completing school at ACHS to run the family farm. Once a Sequoit, always a Sequoit!

From Principal Hamilton's "The Champion" newsletter that is sent to students, staff, and parents: This has been a very difficult week for all of us. Not only is it difficult as we try to find our “groove” and build a routine around remote and hybrid learning, but there has been civil unrest near us and in our own town. The recent events in Kenosha have hit home and has increased the level of anxiety and fear that seems to surround us daily. I want to acknowledge those emotions and reassure you that I am here for you, our school is here for you, and our extended school community is here for you. In uncertain times, the routine of learning and the return to what is known can serve as an anchor for us. In addition, these times also bring to light the need for us to treat each other with respect, responsibility, and pride. I do not write these words lightly, with all my heart I believe that if we focus on being kind to one another, showing respect, taking responsibility for ourselves, and having pride in who we are, we will come together as a learning community. We may not all agree with one another, but we can all care about one another. It is the disagreements and compromises that laid the foundation for our democracy. It is that same civil discord and respectful, difficult conversations that will move us forward. As educators, we approach times like these with a focus on being there for our students, on being there for one another, and on using this time as a teachable moment. Our role is to teach our students how to engage in thoughtful conversations based upon evidence, while respecting the opinions of others. We teach students how to challenge one another, not for the sake of argument, but for the sake of moving the argument and discussion forward. We teach students to listen to one another and to be responsible in the creation of their opinion and to express it with pride and respect. Again, we may not agree with one another, but we can care for and about one another. Antioch Community High School is a safe space for learning. If you have a need for emotional support, please reach out to your teachers, counselor, and/or an administrator. We do not have one school color in our logo. Instead, we have several that come together to make a visual in which we can all have pride. Go Sequoits!
