5 minute timer

D117 Families, Students, and Staff,

This is the October edition of a monthly update wherein you will receive timely reminders, links for upcoming events, and news from Community High School District #117. We promise to keep this to a 5 minute read (or less!)!

1. Read Your “One Stop Shop” for Weekly School News!

If you are a returning member of our community from last year, you may recall that we surveyed you and shared the results regarding the preferred method of communication to families. The majority of you responded that you do not prefer updates via Twitter, Instagram, or FaceBook but rather preferred the direct weekly principal’s newsletter you received your email.

We heard you! This year we are working hard to put all of our important weekly updates in a single “one stop shop” email for each school. If you are the family of a current student, you don’t need to do anything, just read your email. If you are the family of an ACHS student you will see your “Sequoit Weekly” email and if you are the family of an LCHS student you will see your “News From The Nest” email.

If you are not a family on our email list, you can also view these weekly updates anytime on our websites at the very first link on the top left of the menu bar titled “Quick Links”. Just click here for ACHS or here for LCHS.

2. Winter Sports Registration

We want to wish all of our fall programs still competing the very best of luck in the IHSA State Series! Winter athletics are starting now, so be sure to register by using this link and be part of great programs and traditions this winter.

3. How will we decide if we need to close school for an E-Learning Day due to weather?

We have had beautiful weather during these first three months of the school year, but as autumn turns to winter, we must acknowledge the possibility of a severe winter storm in the coming months. This link addresses the common question: How do we decide when it is necessary to close school and implement an E-Learning Day due to inclement weather?

4. Fall Edition of Connections Magazine Published

The fall issue of Connections is out, featuring a double cover (Front and Back) with two legendary athletes (Jacey Schuler & Paul Migas), articles on the “Collaborates” competency from our D117 Portrait of a Graduate, Life Skills Program, capital projects, LCHS 20th Anniversary, ILA award winner, spring athletics & activities, and the always excellent columns by our principals. You can follow these links to view the flipbook, PDF, or full website.

5. Partnership with Glenbard Parent Series - Free online events with nationally renowned experts!

We have partnered again this year with the Glenbard Parent Series to provide free access to the zoom feed for all of their events with nationally renowned experts on parenting, college admissions, mental health, personal wellness, and substance abuse prevention. Please review the brochure of their upcoming events at this link and find the zoom link for upcoming sessions on the website at this link.
