By: Dr. Jeff Feucht, Superintendent
D117 Families, Students, and Staff,
This is the October edition of our monthly update, where you will receive timely reminders, links to upcoming events, and news from Community High School District 117. We promise to keep this to a 5-minute read (or less!)!
1. October is National Principals Month!
Please join us in thanking Dr. Berrie at ACHS, Ms. Bowen at LCHS, and our assistant principals and deans for everything they do for our students and staff every day. If a principal, assistant principal, or dean has made a difference for your family, a quick note, email, or voicemail to them this month would mean a lot!
2. Winter Sports Registration is Open!
We want to wish all of our fall programs still competing the very best of luck in the IHSA State Series! Winter athletics start in the coming weeks, so be sure to register in Infinite Campus. This LINK to Parent University will walk you through the steps to register your student for great programs and traditions this winter.
3. Our Portrait of a Graduate is Still Our North Star!
Last spring, more than 50 students, staff, parents, and Board Members reviewed our District 117 Portrait of a Graduate that an even larger community group created in 2023. One of the clearest findings last spring was that many people in our community are still unfamiliar with the six competencies and what they mean. To address this, we are putting more visuals up in our buildings and finding new ways to engage our students. Read the full story on our website.

4. Join Me for an Event on Anxiety & Perfectionism live online November 10!
We have partnered again this year with the Glenbard Parent Series to give every District 117 family free access to their events with 50+ nationally recognized experts on parenting, college admissions, mental health, personal wellness, and substance abuse prevention. On Tuesday, November 10, at noon, I am co-hosting How to Be Enough: Social Anxiety, Perfectionism and How to Quiet Your Inner Critic with Dr. Ellen Hendriksen, and I hope you will join us! See below for links to all of the upcoming events!

5. How Do We Decide on an E-Learning Day?
As fall turns to winter, we have to plan for the possibility of a severe winter storm in the coming months. This link answers the question we hear most often:

If we do move to an E-Learning Day, students should have their Chromebooks at home, so please remind your student to bring theirs home every night.
6. Your Weekly Newsletters Are Just a Click Away!
Busy holiday celebrations and winter sports seasons are coming! For more detailed information and upcoming dates every week, don’t forget to view Dr. Berrie’s (“Sequoit Weekly”) and Ms. Bowen’s (“News from the Nest”) super informative weekly newsletters in your email inbox and anytime on our websites at the very first link on the top left of the menu bar titled “Quick Links” OR just click here for ACHS or here for LCHS.
