This past week, our science classes at our Summer Freshman Academy wrapped up their weekly challenge. Science teacher Chris Blevins and his team ended every week by applying concepts from the class to some kind of challenge on Fridays.

The challenge for this past week was for students to build the tallest possible tower with only spaghetti and tape to hold a marshmallow at the top.  Although there were plenty of excellent designs, many of the towers were unfortunately bulldozed under the weight of the marshmallow. Lessons like this are great examples of the types of hands-on activities students can expect to build these academic and team-building skills before the school year.
